About Derek Climpson

Acupuncture
Derek Climpson has 17 years’ experience as an acupuncturist and has studied in the UK and in China.
Derek trained at the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, Reading and holds a 4 year BSc Honours degree in Acupuncture .and, in 2018, studied at Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine, Harbin, China as part of an exchange programme in which 10 UK acupuncturists were chosen to study at teaching hospitals in China.
He is a member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS), is fully vetted and insured and is a registered acupuncturist with most health insurance providers. He has clinics in Brentwood, Chelmsford and Leigh on Sea and practises Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and 5 Element styles of acupuncture as well as Auricular and Electro Acupuncture.
Derek has post graduate training in Acupuncture for Fertility and Gynaecology and is a recommended Acupuncturist with the Herts and Essex Fertility Centre, Cheshunt and has represented the British Acupuncture Council at the Fertility Show, Olympia.
He has also done additional post graduate acupuncture training in treating cancer patients undergoing or affected by the side effects of chemotherapy and worked for 4 years as a volunteer treating both in patients and outpatients at St Joseph’s Hospice, Bethnal Green, London.
Derek has also done voluntary work as an acupuncturist at Drug and Alcohol rehabilitation centres in Essex and Refugee centres in London.

Alexander Technique
Derek has been in practice for over 40 years as an Alexander Technique practitioner.
He graduated from the 3 year full time training from the School of Alexander Studies in London and is a member of STAT – the Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique. Members of STAT are required to adhere to a code of professional conduct, to hold professional indemnity insurance and to have undergone a DBS / CRB check.
A severe whiplash injury in a car accident which did not respond to medication/physio or manipulative therapies over an 18 month period, caused Derek to try the Alexander Technique on the recommendation of a friend – with quick and favourable results – and this in turn led to a satisfying change of career.
Derek now runs practices in Brentwood, Chelmsford and Leigh-on-Sea and has clinics at the same three locations. He is also a British Association of Performing Arts (BAPAM) registered Alexander Technique Teacher. He has given talks to groups and workshops throughout Essex, including staff at Runwell Hospital and the Society of Chartered Physiotherapists at Southend University Hospital.
Derek is also a qualified Acupuncturist, holding a BSc Hons degree in Traditional Acupuncture and has also studied at Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine, Harbin, China. He is a practising member of the British Acupuncture Council ( BAcC) and the British Medical Acupuncture Society (BMAS) and has clinics at the same three locations in Essex.
